About Grados
Grados is a free tool for studying harmony. Pick a key and a tonality or mode, and you see the scale notes, the seventh chord on each degree, its available tensions and the notes you should avoid. Everything can be heard on a piano in your browser.
It is made for people studying modal and jazz harmony: students, composers, producers and teachers who need to check quickly which chord and which scale belong to each degree.
The data (chord-scales, tensions, avoid notes, and the characteristic chords and notes of each mode) follows the modal harmony approach of the Berklee College of Music method, as studied and applied by the site's author. Grados is an independent project and is not affiliated with Berklee. The notes of every scale and chord are computed with one theory for all 12 keys and checked with automated tests.
